Where is Keithville?

Keithville is a community in south Caddo Parish, south of Shreveport, off I-49. It is where The LN Co is based. The land here is more open than in the city, with pine woods, pastures and larger lots, and the roads are mostly two-lane parish and state highways that lead to I-49.

If you work in Shreveport, you head north on I-49.

DeSoto Parish next door

DeSoto Parish is directly south of Caddo Parish. Its towns include Mansfield, the parish seat, Stonewall, Logansport, on the Sabine River at the Texas line, and Grand Cane. We buy and sell homes in DeSoto Parish, so these are places we know.

• Stonewall is the closest to Shreveport, near I-49, and is a short drive from Keithville.
• Mansfield is the parish seat, with the courthouse, shops and restaurants, and the Mansfield State Historic Site, which marks the Civil War Battle of Mansfield.
• Grand Cane is a smaller community along the highway between Shreveport and Mansfield.
• Logansport is farther southwest on US-84, on the Sabine River at the Texas line, with river fishing and boating.

Roads and the commute to Shreveport

I-49 is the main road. It runs north and south from Shreveport through Caddo Parish and into DeSoto Parish, and it is the way most people get to work, shopping and hospitals in Shreveport. From Keithville it is a short drive north, and from Mansfield it is longer, generally about 30 to 40 minutes to downtown Shreveport, depending on traffic.

Away from I-49, the roads are two-lane highways and parish roads. US-84 runs east and west through Mansfield, toward Logansport and the Texas line, and Louisiana highways connect the smaller communities. Drive the route you will use before you decide, and allow extra time after storms, since rural roads can flood or have downed trees.

The land and the feel

The whole area is more rural than Shreveport. You will find larger lots, pasture, pine and hardwood forest, ponds and creeks. There are fewer stores nearby, so most people make a weekly trip into Shreveport or Mansfield for groceries, and plan for the drive when they choose a house.

That has some tradeoffs. Houses are farther from hospitals, and some parts of the parishes have limited internet service. Ask what is available at an address before you commit.

Schools

Most of DeSoto Parish is served by DeSoto Parish Schools. Its website, desotopsb.com, lists schools and calendars. Keithville is in Caddo Parish, which is served by the Caddo Parish school system, at caddoschools.org. We don't rank schools, and we suggest checking the district sites for the address of any house you are looking at.
