Where are Haughton and Benton?
Haughton and Benton are both in Bossier Parish, north and east of Bossier City. Haughton lies east of Bossier City, and Benton lies to the north, not far from Lake Bistineau. Each is its own town, with its own town hall, and the parish government is in Benton.
They are only about 15 miles apart, but the roads that lead to them differ, so how you get to work will help you decide which one is closer to what you need.
Getting to Haughton
You get to Haughton on I-20, the interstate that runs east from Bossier City. There is an exit for the town, and from there the main road is US-80, which runs through town and leads back toward Bossier City on one side and toward Minden on the other.
Haughton is a short drive from Barksdale Air Force Base, and the drive to downtown Shreveport is generally 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the hour and the traffic on I-20 and the Red River bridges.
Getting to Benton
You get to Benton on LA-3, which runs north from Bossier City. It also connects to I-220 on the north side of the two cities. Benton Road, in Bossier City, becomes the way into town.
Benton is the parish seat of Bossier Parish, so the parish courthouse and offices are here. The drive to downtown Shreveport is generally 20 to 30 minutes, longer at rush hour. If you work at Barksdale, ask what route works at shift change.
What is there
Both towns have small downtowns, shops and restaurants, and a main street feel. Neither has the full range of a larger city, so most people come into Bossier City or Shreveport for bigger stores and hospitals.
- Haughton: local shops and restaurants along the main roads, and a mix of subdivisions, larger lots and open land around the edges. Haughton Park and other town parks are listed on the town's own site.
- Benton: a town center around the courthouse, the Benton Marketplace shopping, and Cypress Black Bayou Recreation Area, which is a lake park close by with trails and fishing.
- Lake Bistineau: to the east of Benton, in Bossier and Webster parishes, the lake is used for boating and fishing, and there is a state park on the Webster side.
Schools
Both towns are served by Bossier Parish Schools. You can look up school zones and calendars at bossierschools.org. We don't rank schools, and we suggest checking the district site for the address of any house you are looking at.
How to look for a rent to own home near Haughton or Benton
Tell Vana which town you are thinking about, and ask for homes in that area. Not every house we have is in either town, and homes go first come, first served, so ask what is open now. Vana takes buyer calls and texts 8 AM to 8 PM, every day.
Here is the order that works.
- Call or text Vana, and give Vana the town or the road you will use.
- Vana texts you the address of a home that is open.
- Go see the house the same day, and drive to work from the front door.
- If you like it, we go over every term with you, in writing, before you sign.
We own our homes, so there is no bank qualifying, and bad credit is OK. For the full explanation, read how rent to own works.
Want to see a home? Call or text Vana at (318) 310-4663, or see the homes we have now.
